There is much truth to the wise, old
Chinese saying,
"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear"...
Ask Shelley offers you a chance to talk about
issues that concern you... As a teacher, Shelley believes that she
learns from her students, just as her students learn from her...
If you have a question for Shelley,
just ask. She'd love to
hear from you!
Let's keep learning together...
Do I need equipment to do your video?
The only equipment you will need is a comfortable,
safe, sturdy and supportive chair. If balance is an issue for you, please
be sure to use a sturdy chair that has arms.

I
was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Where can I
find some helpful information?
Help is on the way...Go to my links page and
click on multiple sclerosis. You will find brief descriptions of a
number of informative links to go to.
I have rheumatoid
arthritis. Will yoga help me?
Absolutely! One of the best things you can do for
yourself is to move your body everyday. My Yogability and you video offers
you a gentle way to stretch, increase your circulation and improve your
flexibility.
Sometimes I feel anxious.
What can I do to relax?
By focusing our energy and thoughts on a soft, slow,
quiet, rhythmic breath it helps us to relax... (instead of going around
in our head with that cloud of anxiety or negative thoughts) and sometimes
people feel better by moving their bodies. In either case, you've come
to the right place! Isn't it nice to have a choice! You can either listen
to my Yogability and you Relaxation audio CD to calm yourself... or you
can do my Yogability and you Yoga Video to stretch and move your body
while focusing on your breath. Either way, you will feel calmer and more
centered.
I recently
received your video as a gift. I tire easily and am concerned that I won't
be able to finish the whole video. What do I do?
It is very important that you listen to your body
and if you are too tired to continue...STOP!
You might try breaking the yoga workout into shorter time frames that
work for you. You might want to start with ten minutes and if that
is too long for you, try five minutes. The important thing is to move your
body, even if it is for only one minute. Remember yoga is not competitive...
even with yourself.
Do I need special
clothing?
No. Just wear comfortable clothes that will
allow you to be able to stretch and move your body without restrictions.
What if something
hurts?
Always remember to listen to your body and if
something hurts you or if you think something will hurt you, DO NOT DO
IT. I believe it is important to stop before the pain in order for it
to heal. However, if you have fear, it is important for you to be
comfortable enough to emotionally push past your fear. Only
you will know the difference.
So again, I cannot stress the importance of listening to your body.
What if I can't stand?
You have a choice! You can either sit in a comfortable,
safe, sturdy and supportive chair (remember, if balance is an issue
for you, please use a chair that has arms) or you can sit comfortably
in your wheelchair if you prefer.
What if I can't keep
up with the class?
Always remember to listen to your body and go at your own pace.
Some nights I just don't
sleep well. What can I do?
Hopefully, my guided Yogability and you Relaxation
CD will help you release bodily stress, relax your mind and rejuvenate
your spirit.
(Always consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.
When using a chair make sure it is a sturdy, safe, supportive chair...
folding chairs may fold with you in them! If you have balance issues,
please be sure to use a chair with arms.)
